INTRO TO AGILITY      ***New Program***

Have you ever said to yourself that “my dog would be great at agility”?  Now’s our chance to give it a try!!  A newly designed program by Gloria Mitchell, longtime agility judge, competitor and trainer, shows you how to get started in agility in a way that is fun, exciting and rewarding, while still allowing you to build a great foundation in agility skills, should you decide to ‘try’ more agility later.  (That’s how it starts!)

This six week program will cover:

·        What a dog needs to know about jumping and an overview of how we teach it.  Including considerations for preventing injuries and repetitive strains.  Individual dogs jumping mechanics will be looked at, and exercises tailored accordingly.

·        How dogs view tunnels and the tips to starting out strong (tunnels can become frustrating vacuum cleaners that suck your dog in whenever you get near…..not always when you want the tunnel!!).  Teaching open and closed tunnels, including turns into and out of them.

·        The natural motion cues that dogs already understand (!)

·        The trained motion cues that dogs need to be taught

·        Exercises for training at home, that will help you get more out of class each week. (No agility equipment needed, we give you lots of ideas for using household items to build the skills).

·        The “Big Finish”, the last week’s class will include games, an actual beginner agility course, and may involve costumes and swimming flippers (you were warned!).

Cost: $150 for six weeks.  Min 3 dogs, max 6 dogs per class. Compare our class size to other programs!

Schedule:  Thursdays   6:00 pm.  1 hr for 4 dogs or less, 75 min for 6 dog class.  There is a possibility of an evening class on Mondays if there is enough interest. Mondays could be 6pm or 7:15 depending on interest.

Session beginning March 5, to April 9.  Snow or extreme cold days will be added to end, so the dates may extend.  Makeup classes may be available if scheduled before the start of the session.

Location:  minutes from Talbot Line and Mill St (Sheddon).  11 minutes from TLC location.

Prerequisite:  Minimum 12 months. (the dogs, humans can be any age ).  No previous agility experience needed.

Your Coach is two-time Regional Agility Champion, Gloria Mitchell, who brings nearly 20 years of Agility Judging experience, along with over ten years training with Agility greats such as Kayl McCann, Rachel Sanders, Mary Ellen Barry, Jen Pinder, Justine Davenport and more.  In her programs, Gloria strives to learn your personal goals and incorporate them into the training plans.  Training plans build progressively thru the weeks, and include exercises for training at home and pieces tailored specifically for your and your dog.  Most of Gloria’s evening class slots are filled with groups that have been training together for years, some of them for ten years or more.  It’s hard to find evening slots to offer to newer clients, so consider taking advantage of this opportunity!

USING MOTION BASED HANDLING

Have you ever wished you could ‘walk’ an agility course more effectively?  An effective walk-thru stems from a thorough understanding of the tools you and your canine partner currently have, today.  It’s almost like Tetris, as you clarify your handling tools, for both yourself and your dog, it becomes clear where to put them on the courses you are walking.

Have you taught your dog the obstacle skills, but need a little help laying a clear handling foundation so that your young dog is fast, accurate and have a blast?

This six week program will cover:

·        Options for organizing your Handler cues

·        The natural motion cues that dogs already understand (!)

·        The trained motion cues that dogs need to be taught

·        How to develop consistency so your dog can work more quickly, at a greater distance and with more confidence

·        How to decide which tools to use where on courses
